The sun is going down, you are sitting outside and all of a sudden you need to freeze and soak in the magical moment that is in front of you. A hummingbird, just a few feet from you, drinking the nectar while it's wings disappear into the sunset.

It's that time of year again where the sun stays out a little longer and the flowers around you are brighter than ever. The only other thing that highlights this time of year best is the feeling of seeing a hummingbird sitting still for a few moments in front of you. This is not only a beautiful sight, but it's a great reminder to soak in the small moments around you that otherwise seem to disappear in the madness of life. These exciting moments appear unexpectedly and if someone were to tell you that you could make this happen in one easy step - would you believe them?

It is so simple that all you truly need are flowers, flowers, and some more flowers. Not just any flower will do the trick however; by informing you how to pay special attention to the hummingbird's desires and specific qualities of the plants in your garden we will help your outdoor home become hummingbird-friendly.

PLANNING YOUR GARDEN—THINK LIKE A HUMMINGBIRD

1. Salvia

Our Red Salvia flowers are the ideal pair for hummingbirds. This is a win-win situation regardless of the color your Salvia may be (we have purple ones too). The tubular shape of these create an easy access point for the hummer's beak. While they drink the nectar the pollen will fall onto their beak and fall as they fly to the next one; insuring lives of both species.

2. Fuchsias

There are thousands of species for this beautiful eye catching Fuchsia plant. Fuchsias are one of the most difficult feeders for hummingbirds to say no to.

7. Zaharah Double Zinnia

Pictured is a Zaharah Double Cherry Bloom. Beautiful, right? In-store we also have Salmon Zaharah Doubles. This highly attractive flower does just what your heart desires and attracts hummingbirds and even butterflies as well. The best of both worlds.

8. Geranium

This bright beautiful bloom is a great pairing item to a more nectarous flower. A Geranium really gets the hummingbirds coming to check out the nectar supply and if you only have this flower they may leave quicker. However, after pairing this gem along side of a Begonia or Salvia—you won't have to worry about a thing.
